Our storyFrom the rowers to Oar
Oar’s story begins with the rowing community that has called this stretch of West Lakes home for decades.

The 1999 National Rowing Championships at the West Lakes Aquatic Centre.
Where it beganThe rowing community
Part of the Rowing SA complex, our lakeside setting began as a gathering place for rowers, with clubrooms and a kiosk serving the sporting community.
- 2011
The Lakes Boatshed
Those spaces entered a new chapter with the opening of The Lakes Boatshed Café and Function Room, welcoming locals and visitors to enjoy this special spot by the water.
- 2017
Oar is born
The venue was refreshed and Oar was born, bringing a new café, kitchen and bar experience to the lake’s edge.
- Today
Still coming together
We’re proud to continue that story. From early coffees and relaxed brunches to weddings, celebrations and busy regatta days, Oar remains a place for people to come together.

Our surroundings have evolved, but the connection to the lake and the community around it remains at the heart of who we are.

The deckUnder the sails
Take a table outside under the sails, looking straight across West Lakes, with the lawn and the water right there.
Our chefs take local, fresh ingredients and use them to create flavours from all around the world. The menu has all the brunch favourites, plus more interesting dishes for anyone after something new.

The roomOars on the wall
Timber tables, hanging greenery and festoon lights inside, and the deck under the sails outside. Warm in winter, open to the water in summer.
The bar pours boutique wine and craft beer, and the coffee is on from seven.
